Despacito, a song by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi with Daddy Yankee was released in 2017. It was the top streamed song at the period within the space of six months. By 2020 a few reggaeton artists were expressing displeasure at its inclination towards mainstream. However, a younger generation of performers, including Rauw Alejandro, aimed to keep reggaeton evolving. The musician incorporated electronic dance music and other genres into his songs.
