Dolly-Parton
Born on Jan. 19 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn into a poverty-stricken family which would later include 12 children Dolly Parton learned early to overcome the challenges of her life through her vivid and far-ranging imagination. Prior to learning how to write and read Dolly Parton was composing her own music. Within 8 years she had her very first guitar. At age 11 she started singing on Knoxville Tenn's radio station. Gold Band Records is a small label that is independent. While she was at school, she already established herself within the local arena. But her dream was to to perform at a much bigger size. The year 1964 was the day following her graduation from high-school her family moved to Nashville. Dumb Blonde (both 1967) and Something Fishy were among her first Monument Records chart-topping records. Porter Wagoner, a syndicated television show host at the time was searching for a singer for his program. Parton joined RCA Records and then joined the Grand Ole Opry. She took on the role in 1967. Parton left the show but in 1974, because her solo albums like Joshua Coat Of Many Colors and Jolene exceeded the sales of their joint albums. Parton following the breakup of their partnership with Wagoner was the one to write I Will Always Love You and had it reach Number. The first time it made it to the top spot was in 1974.
