
Jessica Michelle Chastain, born on March 24, 1977, is an American actress. Known for primarily starring in films that have feminist themes, she has received numerous accolades, including an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award. Time magazine listed her as one of the 100 most influential people around the globe in 2012. Chastain was an enthusiastic actor at an early age. She made her performance debut on stage as Shakespeare's Juliet in 1998. After attending the Juilliard School, she was awarded a talent-holding deal with the television producer John Wells. She was regular guest stars on several television series and also played roles in many stage productions. Chastain made her film debut in Jolene (2008) at the age of 31. She then went on to make six films in the year 2011, including The Tree of Life (2011) and Take Shelter (2011). She was awarded Academy Award nominations for playing an uninitiated socialite in period drama The Help (2011) and an CIA analyst in the action thriller Zero Dark Thirty (2012). The science fiction films Interstellar (2014), The Martian (2015) and It Chapter Two (2018) were commercially more successful. Chastain has also received praise for her portrayals of strong-willed women in the dramas A Very Violent Year (2014), Miss Sloane (2016) and Molly's Game (2017), and in the TV miniseries Scenes from a Marriage (2021). After portraying Tammy Faye Bakker, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress and Tammy Wynette in The Eyes of Tammy Faye (21) and Tammy Wynette in The Eyes of Tammy Faye (21). Chastain created Freckle Films to promote diversity in film production. She is also an investor in Angel City FC. She is vocal about gender equality, mental illness and racial equity. Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo (fashion executive) is her husband.
